Okay so for real—headaches used to mess up my whole day. Like I’d wake up, feel that dull pain behind my eyes or at the back of my neck and boom, mood ruined. I used to pop painkillers all the time, but I didn’t wanna depend on them forever. So I started trying out some natural stuff and ngl… it actually helped.
Here’s what I did that made a difference:
1. Drank More Water (Shocker I Know)
Tbh I didn’t even realize I was basically running on 1 glass of water a day . Turns out dehydration = major headache trigger. I started drinking like 6–8 glasses a day (still forget sometimes lol) and it really helped. First thing I do now when I feel a headache coming is just chug water.
2. Fixed My Posture (kinda)
I work on a laptop all day, usually hunched like a shrimp . A friend told me that tension headaches can come from neck + shoulder strain. So I started sitting up better (or trying to) and doing some random stretches I found on YouTube. Game changer fr.
3. Caffeine… But Not Too Much
This one’s weird. Sometimes a small coffee or tea would actually help my headache go away — especially if it’s that heavy kinda pressure headache. But too much = crash & worse pain later. So I keep it to like one cup max, and it usually helps if I drink it early.
4. Cold or Warm Compress
If it’s a pounding headache, I use a cold pack on my forehead or neck. If it’s more of a tension ache, a warm compress or even a hot shower works like magic. Literally just laying in the dark with a warm towel on my face = peace ☁️
5. Sleeping Better (Trying At Least)
I used to sleep like 5 hours and call it good. Turns out, nope, that’s not enough lol. Once I started getting at least 7 hours most nights, my headaches got way less frequent. Also, no phone in bed anymore (okay fine, I still scroll a little).
6. Cut Back on Screen Time
Not completely (I’m not a monk), but I started taking screen breaks every hour. Just 5-10 mins away from the screen, looking outside or walking around. Blue light + constant scrolling = eyestrain = headache for me.
7. Essential Oils (yea I went there)
I was skeptical too ngl. But peppermint oil on the temples??? Lowkey works. Not for every kind of headache, but when it’s a tension one, it does feel soothing. Smells kinda strong tho, so maybe don’t use it at work lol.
8. Food Triggers Are Real
Some stuff gives me headaches if I eat it on an empty stomach. Like chocolate (sadly) or cheese sometimes. I started keeping track of when I get headaches and what I ate before — turns out it’s not random most of the time.
Final Thoughts
I still get headaches sometimes but waaaay less than before, and now I can usually deal with it without meds. Not saying painkillers are bad — they def have their place. But if you’re tryna avoid them or use them less, these lil changes might actually help.
Again – not medical advice. Just sharing what worked for me. Talk to your doc if you’re having serious or frequent headaches, coz that could be something more serious.
Disclaimer: I’m not a doctor or anything, just sharing what worked for me. Everyone’s body is diff, so def talk to a healthcare pro if you get bad or regular headaches. Don’t skip that.
